Amman (al-Ghad) — Syria's ambassador to Jordan, Bahjat Suleiman, has been declared a persona non grata and asked to leave the Kingdom within 24 hours, according to foreign ministry spokeswoman Sabah Rafi on Monday.

"The government considers the Syrian ambassador to Jordan persona non grata and demanded he leave the country within 24 hours," Rafi said.

Rafi said the decision comes after Suleiman's repeated insulted to Jordan, its leadership, institutions, and citizens, through his meetings, writings and social media websites.

She said that Suleiman has used Jordan’s territory to cast doubt into Jordan’s position and wrongfully accuse the Kingdom of ill-will, in addition to directly insulting “brotherly” and neighboring Arab countries.

Jordan currently hosts more than 1.3 million Syrian refugees who fled the bloody crisis in Syria, ongoing since 2011, according to government figures.

Moments after Jordan expelled the convoy, he posted a scanned copy of the letter on his Facebook account.
