Jordan's GDP up 3.2% in Q1

AMMAN (Petra) - Jordan's gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 3.2 percent in the first quarter of 2014, compared with 2.6 percent in the same period last year, according to Department of Statistics (DoS).

The value of the GDP in fixed prices reached JD2.55 billion in the first three months of the year, compared to JD2.47 billion during the same period last year.

The DoS report showed that the extraction industrial sector registered the highest growth rate in the first quarter of this year at 7.1 percent, followed by the non-profit special service producers' sector at 6.7 per cent and the construction sector at 6.5 percent.


The sectors of finance, insurance and real estate grew by 0.78 per cent, followed by transportation, storage and communications by 0.5 percent, according to the DoS report.
