Agreement to Purchase 400 Thousan Tonnes of Wheat Annually from Emirati Company at Preferential Pricings

 AMMAN — An informed official source has disclosed that the Cabinet finally signed the agreement between the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply and Emirati company Al Dhaher to buy 400 tonnes of wheat annually.

The source —who preferred to remain anonymous, explained that Jordan will procure the amounts agreed upon at preferential prices that are USD4 less than global pricing, annually saving JOD1.6 million.

Importation are expected to begin by April, and according to the source, the quantities to be imported comprise 41 per cent of the Kingdom’s annual consumptions of wheat at 960 thousand tonnes (at around JOD195 million annually), and will cover 5 months of the total amounts.
