AMMAN — Water and Irrigation Ministry initiated the implementation of the new National Strategy entailing the increase of contribution margins for operational and maintenance expenses 57 per cent to reach 127 per cent by 2025; the new plan includes lowering costs and increasing returns, albeit while enhancing the quality and levels of water, irrigation, and sewerage services, leading to minimised waste and enlarged marginal coverage of energy expenses.

Detailed financial sustainability indices include increases in governmental support from JOD170 million in 2014 to JOD180, and net department debt from JOD1170 million to JOD1200 million in 2025 due to accumulative increase in costs parallel to quality and production enhancements.

Accordingly, these enhancements include increasing demographic coverage from 91 per cent of the total population, according to 2014 figures, to 95 per cent by the end of the 10-year programme, raising daily litres of consumable water per capita from 62 in 2014 to 105 by 2025, and national water reserves from 325 million cubic meters to 400.
