Shweikah: Calls for Private Sector to Support Knowledge Centres

AMMAN —Al Ghad— Majd Shweikah, Minister of Information Technology and Communications, called Monday, on the eve of the 15th anniversary of the Knowledge Centres initiative’s, upon the private sector to support Knowledge Centres scattered across all the Kingdom’s governorates and benefit off them.

During the ceremony, attended by General Director of the National IT Centre Dr Bahaa Al Din Khasawneh and a number of private sector representatives, explained that the initiative was launched to enable the development of the IT sector and innovation, bridging the gap between the different areas of the Country and the empowerment of sustainability through increasing popular accessibility to IT platforms and skill-development instruments.

Dr Khasawneh underlined that the number of knowledge centres in Jordan has reached 196 stations, having graduated 229 thousand people and serviced 2.5 million users by the end of 2015.

Notably, 39 per cent of the centres are distributed in the central regions of Jordan, 34 per cent in the northern areas, and 27 per cent in the southern parts of the Kingdom.
