AMMAN — Jordan Prime Minister, Dr Abdullah Nsoor, met with President and CEO of Russian company “Atom” —umbrella producers of nuclear power in Russia, Sergie Liriyenko and delegation today, Monday,  to deliberate preliminarily on a proposal for the nuclear power plant in Jordan.

The meeting was attended by the President of the Atomic Energy Commission, Dr. Khaled Toukan, to review the progress in the construction of the Jordanian Atomic station, and achievements related to the project, as well as experts from both sides to review the environmental impact of the powerplant.

During the meeting, Nsoor underlined the economic importance of the atomic plant project to Jordan, referring to the confidence of Russian expertise in this area.

Accordingly, Premiere Nsoor said the government will take all the studies presented into consideration, and will take the appropriate decision based on the balance between economic needs and factors.  

Dr. Toukan said that the talks were fruitful and also focused on the local National Atomic entrance to the station so that it is 20 percent of the total investment in the plant input and national companies and local workers and locally produced materials in Jordan.

In turn, Kiriyenko said, the importance of the atomic station for Jordan in the energy-saving project, adding that the company will invest all its expertise in this area to make this the first project of its kind in Jordan's success story in the region.
