Queen Rania Calls for Global Response to Refugee Crisis

AMMAN — Her Majesty Queen Rania Abdullah called upon the International Community today, Monday, during Her visit as an International Rescue Committee (IRC) proponent to the Kara Tepe  refugee camp in the Greek island of Lesbos, to formulate an intensified response to the growing refugee crisis that reflects on a scale beyond the capacities of any single country or region alone.

On facing up to the challenges of the escalating refugee situation, globally, Her Majesty spoke on there being a growing need to tend the extraordinary necessities of the crisis, and that refugees a people with real dignity that is not bound to geography and borders; they are not numbers, but people with their stories and they have risked their lives to get to safety.

Her Majesty the Queen insisted on there being a need to finding safe, legal alternatives for refugees seeking Asylum.

On the visit, Queen Rania thanked the people and government of Greek, who showed compassion and collaboration towards refugees in spite of the economic difficulties they are facing.

The Mayor of the Island and the Regional Director of the IRC accompanied Her Majesty to the Camp, currently hosting over 950 people.
