ANKARA — The World Health Organisation (WHO) and UNICEF published a collaborative report stating natural breastfeeding may save the lives of over 820 thousand children, annually, and the world economy around USD300 billion, every year.

In more detail, increasing the duration of child breastfeeding, closer to globally recognised optimal levels; at about 6 months at least, may help save the lives of more than 800 thousand children below the age of 5, and relieve global economy of hundreds of billions of Dollars spent on breast milk alternatives, accumulatively selling about USD45 billion worth of product around the world every year, next to the health and cognitive benefits for children.

Out of 194 states surveyed, according to the report, 135 have a form of regulation entailing legal procedure regarding breastfeeding, while only 39 countries have legislations fully compliant with the international statement on child breastfeeding.
