Seismic Storm Strikes Aqaba, No Damages

AMMAN —Al Ghad— The residents of Aqaba felt an earthquake at exactly 4:48 Monday morning, resulting in no injuries or damages, according to eye witnesses statements to “Al Ghad”, and Chief of the Aqaba Civil Defence Department.

On behalf of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Head of the Geological Department, Dr Ali Sawarye, stated to Jordan news Agency (Petra) that the earthquake monitor cited a 5.1 earthquake beginning the Seismic Storm that commenced at dawn, today across a 66Km area at a depth of 13Kms south of Aqaba.

Aftershock quake took place 30 minutes afterwards at 2.5 degrees on Richter scale, followed by one at 3.5, at the depths of 7 and 10 kilometres, respectively, succeeded by two more quakes at 1.4 and 2.5 degrees Richter, north of Aqaba.
