AMMAN —Al Ghad— The Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (TRC) decided today, Monday, on the proposition by Jordanian telecomm operators to impose charges on internet calls via Multicast applications, like WhatsApp and Viber, that “no fees or additional charges are to be imposed” in this regard, “nor any procedural implementations of such”, entailing additional costs, would be eligible, according to the Commission’s Press statement.

The decision was agreed upon with domestic service couriers in a meeting held at noon today, between the Commission and the three domestic telecommunication companies, who since April, have been disseminating messages to users demanding electronic registration and documentation, as well as running registration procedures in the VoIP service to be able to operate calls over multicast applications, causing a vast controversy in the sector as well as among users of services.
