AMMAN —Al Ghad— A Royal Decree was issued today, Wednesday, to hold the Representative Elections in accordance to the 34th Articles of the Constitution, following His Majesty’s reassurance during the meeting last Monday with the President and Members of the Independent Elections Commission (IEC) on the importance of concluding preparations for the upcoming elections, highlighting that the IEC, along with other respective authorities and institutions, are responsible for the reinforcement of popular participation.

On their side, a source inside the IEC stated that the Commission will announce the date for the Representative Elections tomorrow, Thursday, and estimated that the Elections will probably be held between the 18th and 20th of September.

According to Paragraphs (1) and (2) of Article (73) of the Constitution, general elections are to be held so that the House of Representatives is regrouped for an Extraordinary Term within 4 month of the dismantlement, and is in full capacity to the accords of Article (78) of the Constitutions, while should the Elections not be held, the relieved House is to restore full authority and constitutional position in Parliament, resuming their tasks until the time a new House is elected.

Following the issuance of the Royal Decree to hold the Elections, the Commission is required to meet and provide a date for the elections within 10 days, as such that the date set does not intercept with other general and major occasions, i.e. the women’s world cup held September, in Jordan.
