Tobacco, Alcohol, and Vehicle Property Transfer Prices and Fees Increased

AMMAN —Al Ghad— The government announced a bundle of economic decisions, Monday, inclusive of particular price and fee increases on Tobacco, Alcohol, and vehicle property transfer, during a meet with the Cabinet’s economic team.

Tobacco increases include custom raises of JOD0.05 in all areas of Jordan, except for the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), where there will be a JOD0.10 increase.

As for Alcohol, an increase to JOD5.5 in special tax in customs has been announced, from JOD3.75. For fuels on the other hand, a JOD0.025 increase per litre has been decided for diesel, kerosene, and petrol.

On the other hand, exemptions on clothes and shoes, enacted in 2015, have been annulled, as well as depreciation rates on imported used cares, pending revaluation.

Vehicle property transfer fees have been increased as well, in accordance to engine volume as follows; JOD50 for engines below 1500 CCs, JOD100 for engines between 1500 and 2000 CCs, JOD400 for engines up to 3000 CCs, JOD550 to 4000 CCs, and JOD700 for engines above 4000 CCs.

Accordingly, given arrangements with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Electricity prices will not be increased until the end of 2016, early 2017, prefacing the implementation of the new financial and structural reform (2016-2019) programme.
