AMMAN — The Prime Ministry, Dr Hani Mulqi, stated to the Jordan News Agency Tuesday, during his visit to the National Aid Fund (NAF), that addressing the issues of poverty and unemployment is on top of the government’s priorities, calling on the Fund and the Ministry of Labour to establish means by which impoverished Jordanians can be employed in the stead of imported labour.

According to the statements of the Minister of Social Development, Khawla Armouti, during the meeting, which was attended by the Minister of Labour, Ali Ghzawi, among other members of the Cabinet, NAF provides to around 90 thousand Jordanian families at a total of JOD93 million, ranging from instant to monthly basis aid provisions.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Labour announced suspending importation of labour until such a time the domestic labour market is organised and evaluated, and the imbalances in it are addressed; especially in the agricultural sector, in addition to addressing percussions of the Syrian refugee crisis and their entry into the market, contributing to increasing unemployment among Jordanians. The suspension is inclusive of all sectors except for house labour and qualified, licenced industrial areas.
