Bill to Legalize Israeli Settlements Passes 1st Knesset Reading

RAMALLAH — The Knesset special joint committee on Wednesday ratified a first reading on a settlement bill that legalizes thousands of settlers' homes on private Palestinian properties.

The Israeli radio reported that the bill would also be debated by a special Knesset committee for a decision as which should be put to a second or third vote, so as to be passed into law.

The bill was approved with a majority of nine votes, while six lawmakers of the joint committee voted against it, the radio added.
