AMMAN —AlGhad— The National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) recently issued call for bids to import 125 billion cubic metres of liquidated natural gas to cover next year’s consumption, approximately 350 million cubic feet a day.
The tender quotations for next year’s stocks of liquid gas will be similar to this year’s, according to Eng Amin Zaghal, NEPCO’s assistant director.
Meanwhile, the introduction of renewable energy to the Jordanian national power mix has barely helped save on gas consumptions, Zaghal said.
In more details, Zaghal said that alternative energy is estimated to have saved no more than 10-20 million cubic feet of gas per day, so far.
So far into the year, Jordan has imported JOD437.3 million worth of natural gas, in the first six months, H1-2017, compared to JOD282.9 million in H1-2016, according to the Department of Statistics.
