AMMAN —AlGhad— Produce exporters will suspend their strike, which was supposed to begin on Monday, having reached to an agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture.
Minister Khaled Huneifat meet extensively with the exporters, the association of produce exporters said.
He also agreed to revert the newly introduced sampling procedure for now, association Chairman Saad Abu Hammad confirmed to AlGhad.
Later on, the Ministry may introduce alternative sampling methods for exportation purposes that do not inflict damage to export produce.
Mr Huneifat explained to AlGhad that these procedures were considered necessary after the UAE-ban on Jordanian produce last year.
He also stated that the sampling process has indeed inflicted considerable loss on the produce exportation sector.
Meanwhile, the association stressed that these method prove only that the Ministry is incapable of finding solutions.
Demands have been made, according to Hammad, to introduce efficient and effective procedures to inspect the safety of Jordanian produce without damaging the goods.
In fact, the ministry is responsible for the high rate of pesticide remnants, both indirectly and directly, the association underlines.
