Gov’t: Overall Annual Healthcare Expenditure at JOD2.2b

AMMAN —AlGhad— Minister of Health Dr Mahmoud Shayyab uncovered yesterday, Tuesday, to the Jordan News Agency ‘Petra’ that the overall annual expenditure on healthcare in Jordan stands at around JOD2.2 billion, including the  JOD1.25 billion spent the public sector.

The sector accounts for nearly 8.4 per cent of the Kingdom’s GDP, which according to Dr Shayyab is equivalent to sector allocations in advanced countries.

More so, the Minister said that healthcare coverage in Jordan has reached 97 per cent, facilitated by both the private and public sectors.

Meanwhile, maternal mortality during childbirth has declined to 19 per cent, he said, in reference to advancement in the healthcare sector.

Notably, there are around 32 operational public hospitals in Jordan, and 680 medical centres all over the Kingdom.
